<title>West Marine to open first franchised store in Istanbul, Turkey By West Marine</title>
<description>West Marine, Inc.has announced a relationship with East Marine Denizcilik & Turizm A.S. to open its first franchise store in Istanbul, Turkey. An ardent sailor and industrialist, Mr. Rahmi M. Koç is the Chairman and controlling shareholder of East Marine.
The new West Marine store in Turkey, located at Kumlar Caddesi No: 8 Kartal, is set to open in July 2008. It's part of a multi-store development agreement for Turkey. Istanbul, located on the Bosphorus Straight, straddling Europe and Asia, is surrounded by the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, making it an ideal location for a West Marine store. Other locations are being identified along Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
"We view this as a tremendous opportunity to leverage the West Marine brand and expertise with East Marine's international experience," said Geoff Eisenberg, CEO, West Marine. "We believe franchising has enormous potential and we look forward to growing our international sales and presence with our respected partner."

<title>IFA Stifles Broadening of New Jersey Franchisee Protection Law</title>
<description>RENTON, N.J. (Blue MauMau) - The International Franchise Association has stifled an attempt to update the New Jersey Franchise Practice Act sponsored by New Jersey Assemblyman Joseph Cryan in which courts are asked to be broader in their protection of franchise owners.

I don’t think this amendment is of major newsworthiness,” states Mr. David French, Vice President of Government Relations for the International Franchise Association. Mr. French interviewed with Blue MauMau while attending the 76th Conference of Mayors in Miami, Florida.
Despite the supposedly unremarkable nature of the New Jersey franchise amendment, the IFA has not only written a detailed letter (pdf, 2 pgs) on June 11 to the assemblyman on why the organization opposed his update to the law, and then published the letter, but it also has dispatched representatives to dissuade the New Jersey assemblyman of his position.
Those attempts seem to have worked. The update to the franchise law cannot be found in .
